    A. My institution assist parents by
    1. Hosting what is known as a Parents' Support Group Meeting - where parents meet and are given ideas to assist their child in achieving academic success

    B. Potential Ideas

  3. Activity 8: Piaget's Influence

    On My Teaching Practice
I realize that my students would be at the different stages of cognitive development. As a result, I endeavour to plan my lessons with various strategies in an effort to cater for the various ability levels that my students are at. The activities are structured so that each learner can achieve understanding of concepts. They are assessed in a manner aligned with their level of cognitive development so that each one can be fairly evaluated for their learning attainments.

    Colleagues Practice
My colleagues' students can achieve great success if the teachers remember that
    1. Connections need to be made between students' previous knowledge and how it relates to new ideas - this will assist them better understanding the new concept and applying to their learning.
    2. Social interaction among the students provides not only opportunities to acquire social skills but it is also an avenue for students to learn from each other which may help to clear any misconceptions that may have occurred.
    3. If they know the possible stages where each learner may be at - they could then cater their lessons to meet each learner at their stage of cognitive development and strengthen them to move on to the next level
    4. Students' comprehension of new ideas will take place in a meaningful manner once students are actively engaged in their learning through first-hand experiences or numerous activities of discovering information for themselves
    5. New information needs to be shared in their concrete stage to aid in the learning process before moving on to the more abstract explanation.

  4. Activity 5: Questions_Techniques_Ideas

The class consist of three pupils for one hour literacy session

    1. To whom or what does "he" refer to in line 1?
    2. What effect is the author trying to create by using short sentences in the passage?
    3. Describe the setting
    4. State one word which could describe Aba's feelings when he realized that he was sinking
    5. Why does the author repeat "squeezed"
    6. What does Aba cry for joy
7.Why was "the sound of the breakers" a bitter memory?

Though I try to employ open-ended questions, it is an area the requires much improvement. Hence, I would need to develop the strategy of asking questions that would allow my students to critically assess before answering.

  5. Activity 10: Discussion

I applied the Think, Ink, Pair and Share activity in my literacy class of students. I found that it gave my students the opportunity to work together. For the most, they share their view(s) on the topic. One group actually had a mini-debate as they held varied points of view on the questions asked. This aid in promoting the discussion on the topic when it came time to share as others in the class had similar sentiments for each side.

The benefit for my students was that they gain a deeper insight in how to collaborate with others.

  6. Activity 12: Problem-Solving

In my class session, students had to consider solution to the rising number of gun crimes that are being committed. Students were encouraged to state their opinions using the strategy of brainstorming.

Each student was given the opportunity to share their opinion without the fear of being ridiculed. The suggestions were then tabulated as to which were feasible, long-term or short term and which ones would be difficult to implement. Reasons had to be supplied for where the idea would be placed along with a general agreement before it was placed. It was intriguing to listen to the ideas been shared.
